You Should Be Offending People

Path to Manliness

Cancel culture is holding back humanity. Which is ironic since the side that embraces cancel culture is often called “progressive.”

Much of what I write is offensive to certain people, but that doesn’t mean that I’m writing offensive content. It’s just that we live among a very vocal minority of snowflakes. Turn up the heat just a little bit, and they melt.

This is not healthy for society.

Cancel culture leads to self-censorship. Those who have a family to support and a job they need to feed their kids fear speaking out. They don’t want to risk losing their job when the mob comes for them. So they stay silent. Our collective conscious is robbed of their ideas.

“In order to be able to think, you have to risk being offensive.”

- Jordan Peterson

It’s understandable if you fear speaking out. But you should be free to speak up. This is a culture war and one side plays by a different set of rules.

There’s a limit to free speech. I don’t dispute that. The problem is what is considered “problematic.” When people aren’t allowed to say something that might get misconstrued as hurtful, they fear saying anything meaningful.

So now we only speak in obvious truths and we tip toe around everyone’s feelings so no one is offended. But when you only say what everyone agrees with, then nothing of value is said. It’s all a bunch of white noise.
