It’s Never Enough
Last week I ran 20 miles, biked 23 and swam 500 yards. This was a slow week. This may seem like a full week of training, but there are days like today where it’s never enough.
“I only run if something is chasing me.”
“I’m not a runner.”
That’s what everyone tells me when I talk about my running. But I wasn’t a runner either. Until I started to run.
In track, I ran the 800 meter and I thought this was long enough. I never even attempted to run more than 2 miles until I was 30. That was when I decided to run my first 5K. I wanted to check the box. I figured that I would never run another one. 3.11 miles felt so far to me back then.
And then something crazy happened…. I started to like it. Then I loved it. Now it’s an addiction.
There’s an electric buzz around a race. It’s infectious energy being around so many motivated people. And despite feeling awful during and after my first 5K, I wanted to do another one.
Which I did. And I ran a little faster because I trained for it. Then I ran a 10K. Then a Spartan Race. I ran the half marathon and had to talk myself through every step of the last 3…
