Garfield is a Sad Caricature of the Average American
Garfield hates Mondays. Many of you likely hate Mondays as well. Or as I like to describe it, 14% of your life. This is a sad reality that so many people are living a life lacking fulfillment that they actively hate going to their job, or school. While I understand the hatred of school as we are not given a choice with that matter, we should be able to find a job that we either enjoy or can at least tolerate.
I remember seeing people drive past with Garfield stuffed animals sticking to the window of their cars. I remember as a child going to offices and seeing the comic strip plastered on a cubicle wall as some small token of expression and joy in a soulless and somber work environment. I don’t recall seeing a lot of these comic strips an the window of a corner office in a towering skyscraper. I don’t recall seeing stuffed Garfield toys sticking to the window of a Corvette or Cadillac. No Garfield seems relegated to the lower middle class stuck in his cubicle. Garfield is the mascot for those who lack drive and are just strolling through life with no purpose.
How anyone can enjoy this show is beyond me, but my kids turned it on the other day and I tried to stomach it so I could spend time with them. I hate Garfield like that fat orange cat hates Mondays. Why do I hate a cute fluffy orange cat? Because it perpetuates a lifestyle…
